Shirley Georgene "Pat" Anderson, 77 years of age, of Holdrege, (formerly of Oxford)
A Celebration of Life Service for Shirley "Pat" Anderson will be conducted from the Evangelical Free Church in Oxford, Nebraska on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Wes Holen, officiating. Interment will follow in the Alma Cemetery at Alma, Nebraska.
Shirley Georgene "Pat" Anderson, 77 years of age, of Holdrege, (formerly of Oxford) passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Pat was born on January 21, 1936 at Alma, the youngest of two children born to George Henry and Helen Mae (Coe) Patterson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Alma. The family made their home in several communities throughout the years. Pat began her education at Superior, Nebraska, then second grade in Alma, the third grade at Port Orchard, Washington, and then she returned to Alma Public Schools for grades fourth through eleventh before graduating from Hastings High School with the class of 1954.
On May 30, 1954, Pat was united in marriage to Owen Francis Anderson at the E.U.B. Church in Hastings. The couple were blessed with four children: Beverly Sue, Michael Owen who died at age of eight, Penni Lynn, and Wendi Jo.
Pat began her career as a librarian in Hastings and Grand Island, Nebraska High Schools. Then the family relocated to Spokane, Washington, Grand Island, and Lincoln until settling in Alma. After returning to Alma, Pat served as the Deputy Harlan County Treasurer. She then went to work for Becton-Dickinson in Holdrege, and then became employed by the Harlan County Extension Office. As a partner in ministry with her husband, Owen they traveled serving God through the Ministry in Music for over thirty years. In June of 1995 they began to make their home in Oxford.
Pat was a former member of the Alma E.U.B. Church, the Alma United Methodist Church, Alma Evangelical Free Church and currently was a member of the Oxford Evangelical Free Church. Along with her husband, Owen, Pat loved music. Music was an important part of their lives, as they recorded together more than 10 times on 11 albums.
In addition to her son, Michael, she was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Clara Mae Mietzner. Pat leaves to mourn her passing; her husband of 59 years, Owen Anderson of Holdrege; her three daughters: Beverly Kindler and her husband, Marvin of Oxford, Penni Meier of Oxford, and Wendi Santee and her husband, Bob of Lansing, Kansas; five grandchildren: Jeremiah Kindler and his wife, Rachel, Charity Kindler-Park, Michael Meier, Amber Meier all of Oxford and Parker Santee of Lansing, Kansas; two great-grandchildren: Abbigail and Isabella Park of Oxford; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
A memorial has been established in Pat's honor and will be designated at a later date.
