Lexington Volunteer Fire Department raising funds

The Lexington Volunteer Fire Department is running their annual fund raiser.

Fire Chief Dahlas Holbein said the drive usually begins in November around the time of Give BIG Lexington. While the city and county cover provide most of their equipment, Holbein said, the money from the fund drive is still put to good use.

Holbein said the money goes towards t-shirts and sweatshirts worn by volunteers, as well as meals during their weekly training sessions. Holbein said there aren't many perks to being a volunteer firefighter, so it is nice to have money to pay for those kind of items. The department also used the money last year to purchase a 4x4 vehicle for rescues in difficult-to-reach areas.
