Pursuit suspect has 1st court appearance

A man taken into custody early Sunday morning after a 50 mile pursuit with law officers had his first appearance in Scotts Bluff County Court today.

31-year-old Christopher Lynch was wanted on a Colorado felony warrant for auto theft, and a Wyoming felony warrant for probation violation on a larceny charge. Lynch faces local charges of driving without a license, willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, and obstruction a police officer

The pursuit began late Saturday night after Lynch avoided a law enforcement check point. The pursuit went through Scottsbluff, and south on Highway 71 and officers eventually established a perimeter in Banner County after Schmidt crashed the car he was driving in a field and fled.

A Nebraska State Patrol aircraft was used to help locate Lynch and arrest him. After investigation, officers were able to determine that Lynch had been living in Scottsbluff.

Lynch is being held on $100,000 bond with a 10% cash provision, and will have a preliminary hearing this Thursday (5/8) at 10:30 a.m.
