France May Reject EU Budget if Farm Funds Cut More
French European Union Affairs Minister Bernard Cazeneuve says France opposes the proposed reduction to the Common Agricultural Policy - which has already been significantly reduced in the original proposal of the European Commission - nearly 64.5-billion dollars-worth.
Basically he says France would not support a multiannual budget that doesn't maintain the funds of the CAP. France has been trying to find allies in the battle to keep the CAP stable after 2013.
In the EU's proposal - spending on farm subsidies would fall by about 5-billion euros and direct payments to farmers would total more than 277-billion euros over seven years.
