Stuart A. Drake, 86 years of age, of Alma

Mass of Christian Burial for Stuart A. Drake will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans, Nebraska on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Jamie Hottovy officiating. Interment will be in the Alma Cemetery at Alma, Nebraska.
Stuart A. Drake, 86 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma. He was born February 5, 1927 in Nelson, Nebraska, the second of three children of Floyd and Nellie (Statz) Drake. In 1931, the family moved to a farm southeast of Alma. Stuart received his primary education from the Prairie Dog Rural School District south of Alma and then graduated from Alma High School with the class of 1945.
Following his education, Stuart engaged in farming and raising livestock on the family farm with his father. Farming was his lifelong career and his true passion in life was being on the farm.
On April 8, 1950, Stuart was united in marriage to Eleanor Elizabeth Graf at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans and to this union one son, James Stuart was born. The couple resided in Alma for 1 ½ years at the beginning of their marriage until moving to a farmstead southwest of Alma in 1952, where they continued farming. Eleanor passed away on December 10, 1996 following a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Stuart moved into Orleans in 1982, where he continued to reside until his health began to fail from a stroke in 2005. He then began to make his home at the Villa in January of 2007.
Stuart enjoyed hunting, and grew up with the love of riding horses. He also enjoyed attending the horse races, and loved an occasional trip to Las Vegas, Nevada. In his later years, Stuart enjoyed playing cards with his friends in Orleans. Stuart was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans and served eight years on the county board as a Harlan County Supervisor.
Besides his parents, and wife, Eleanor, Stuart was preceded in death by one sister, AnnGreta Madonna.
He leaves to mourn his passing; his son, James Drake and his wife, Willa of rural Alma; one grandson, Joshua Drake and his wife, Brittnay of Hastings, Nebraska; two great-grandchildren: Tucker and Kali Drake; one brother, Loy E. Drake and his wife, Goldean of Bloomington, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Mary Graf of Arapahoe, Nebraska; special friend, Myrna Lennemann of Orleans; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Banta-Torrey Funeral Home in Alma.
Rosary will be held on Wednesday, evening at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Orleans.
A memorial will be established in Stuart's honor and kindly suggested to the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Orleans, the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma or the donor's choice.
