Grace Darlene Carson, 80 years of age, of Holdrege


Memorial Services for Grace D. Carson will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date in Kirwin, Kansas.
Grace Darlene Carson, 80 years of age, of Holdrege passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013 at her home in Holdrege. She was born January 30, 1933 in Kirwin, the youngest of four children of Frank and Ada (Hawks) Gillis. Grace received her primary education from schools in Wichita and Stockton, Kansas and graduated from the West Denver High School in Denver, Colorado with the class of 1951. She then worked as an elevator operator at Denver Dry Goods.
She was united in marriage to William "Bill" John Carson on October 3, 1952 in Denver, Colorado and the family made their home in California. On October 3, 1962, the family adopted their son, Dana Scott and Grace became a stay at home mom and housewife. They later moved to Stockton, Kansas.
The family then moved to Colorado where she was the Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and Webelos. The family then moved to Estancia, New Mexico where she raised chickens and cats and Dana and Bill farmed and ranched. The family then moved back to Stockton, Kansas and Grace continued to work as a homemaker and as a cook for the Catholic Priest, Father John.
Grace enjoyed almost anything with animals. She especially enjoyed going to the zoo with her granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bill; brothers, Daryl and Cecil; and sister, Maxine.
Grace leaves to mourn her passing; her son, Dana Carson and his wife, Wanda of Holdrege; two granddaughters: April Tracy and her husband, David of Kearney, Nebraska and Anna Carson of Holdrege; great-grandson, Nathan Carson of Holdrege; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Gillis of Pheonix, Arizona and Joan Carson of San Jose, California; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation as the family has honored her wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Grace's memory and kindly suggested to the Holdrege Animal Shelter.
