Ruby received her education from Wilcox Public School. She then pursued her passion of caring for others in the field of nursing, receiving her LPN at the Kearney State College, and later achieved her RN degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney through the UNMC program, where she graduated with high distinction. Ruby then went into action supporting others in their health care needs, working as an Emergency Room Nurse at the Phelps Memorial Health Center at Holdrege, Nebraska for over 35 years prior to her retirement. In June of 1967, she was united in marriage to Evald Eugene Pouk and to this union four children were born: Laurie Ann, Angela Sue, Tammy Jean and Joseph Eugene. Later in years, Ruby was united in marriage to Ed Bowman on December 29, 1981 at Holdrege. They made their home in Loomis, where Ruby enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, watching movies, dancing, was an avid collector of owls and most of all she enjoyed reading scriptures from her Bible.
