Linnea Parish, 97 years of age, of North Platte, Nebraska
Funeral Services for Linnea Parish will be conducted at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand, Nebraska on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Matt Hacker officiating. Interment will be held following the service at the Immanuel Cemetery north of Bertrand.
Linnea Parish, 97 years of age, of North Platte, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Linden Court in North Platte. She was born in Bertrand on March 10, 1916 to John A. and Ellen (High) Anderson. After graduating from Bertrand High School, she attended Normal School training at Kearney State Teachers' College and taught elementary school in several rural Phelps County schools.
During the war years, Linnea taught in Pender, Lexington and Wilcox. On August 7, 1948, she was united in marriage to Frank M. Parish in Bertrand. They made their home in Taylor, Nebraska, where Frank served as school principal and Linnea taught elementary and junior high school.
In 1954, they moved to rural Red Willow County. Linnea became a homemaker and mother, tending to her three children and volunteering many hours of service to her church and community.
During Frank's career the family lived in the communities of Genoa, Crawford, Bennington, Wilcox, and Rising City. After retirement, they remained in Rising City. On March 5, 1998, Linnea was preceded in death by her husband, Frank. In 2004, she moved to North Platte to be near her family.
Besides her husband and parents, Linnea was preceded in death by, a younger sister, Leona Anderson and an infant daughter, Andrea.
She is survived by her two daughters: Cynthia Sabah of Kearney and Melissa Arnesen and her husband, Keith of Princeton, NJ; one son, Jim Parish and his wife, Lisa of North Platte; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Edith Ackerson of Omaha; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held prior to services on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand.
A memorial has been established in Linnea's honor and kindly suggested to the First Lutheran Church in Rising City or the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bertrand.
