Funeral Services for Deanna F. Kuskie will be conducted on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Orleans, Nebraska with Pastor Dave Irwin officiating. Interment will be in the Orleans Cemetery.

Deanna F. (Artz) Kuskie, 57 years of age, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska (formerly of Orleans), passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. She was born on February 12, 1956 at Orleans, the youngest of four children born to Merle W. and Marian F. (Dickau) Artz. Deanna received her education from Orleans Public School, graduating from Orleans High School with the class of 1974. She then pursued higher education at Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education in 1978. During her college years, Deanna was involved in Cardinal Key teachers society, the Chi Alpha campus Bible study, and the Love's Echo singing group. Deanna then began her elementary teaching career in Kansas, and also taught in Nebraska.

Deanna was united in marriage to Jerald Kuskie in 1981 and to this union two children were born: Christiana and Anthony. She will be lovingly remembered for the boundless love she possessed for her children and grandchild. Deanna will be joyfully remembered for her passion to teach, her love of books, reading and learning and her extensive music appreciation.

In 1999 she moved to Scottsbluff. She attended the Zion Evangelical Church. Deanna was also involved in many Bible studies. In spite of the many tribulations and struggles that took her away from her career early on, she overcame adversity and spent her last days once more teaching and surrounding herself with laughing children in the classroom. She will be fondly remembered as "Grandma Dea" in the Gering/Scottsbluff area Foster Grandparent Program. If she could add her own words to this, she would include, without a doubt, fervent encouragement for our own walk with the Lord for she drew great strength and joy from her own.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Marian Artz on September 8, 1995.

Deanna leaves to mourn her passing; her two children: Christiana Weathers and her husband, J.D. of Ocean Springs, Mississippi and Anthony Kuskie of Savannah, Georgia; one granddaughter, Serenity Weathers; her father, Merle Artz of Alma, Nebraska; one brother, Jim Artz and his wife, Lorie of Wallace, Nebraska; two sisters: Pat Teck and her husband, Ron of Grand Junction, Colorado and Becky Fleischmann and her husband, Dave of Alma; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans.

A memorial has been established in Deanna's honor and will be designated at a later date.
