Dwight LeRoy Bash, 84 years of age, of Orleans
A Celebration of Life Service for Dwight L. Bash will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Orleans, Nebraska with Pastor Dave Irwin officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at the Orleans Cemetery prior to the services with Military Rites provided by the Harold Morin American Legion Post #184 of Orleans in conjunction with the United States Army Military Honor Guard. Masonic Rites will be provided at the church by the Jachin Lodge # 146 A.F. & A.M.
Dwight LeRoy Bash, 84 years of age, of Orleans, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Harlan County Health Systems in Alma, Nebraska. Dwight was born December 15, 1929 on the family farm three miles north of Alma in Harlan County, Nebraska, the only child born to Francis Milton "F.M." Bash and Erma Evelyn (Baker) Bash. He was baptized on April 16, 1933 at the Alma Evangelical Free Church. Dwight received his education from Alma Public Schools, graduating from Alma High School with the class of 1947. He then pursued higher education at Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska, where he received his Business Administration Degree with emphasis on Economics and Mathematics.
Following his education, he served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge on July 9, 1954. After his service, Dwight returned home to Orleans, where he accepted a position with the Republican Valley Bank. On November 4, 1956 he was united in marriage to Donna Loree Ott at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska. To this union six children were born: Jon, Jeff, Lori, Philip, and twins: Daniel and David. The family made their home in Orleans, where Dwight served the bank as Executive Senior Vice-President until his retirement in 1992, following a 38 year career. Dwight then began a new chapter in his life in Resource Development at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma until 2000. On April 27, 2005 he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna. Due to his failing health, Dwight began to make his home at the Colonial Villa since October of 2013.
Dwight loved spending time with his grandchildren, was a devoted Husker fan, enjoyed snow skiing in his younger years, was an avid fisherman and hunter and music was always an important part of his life. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Orleans, past member of the Rotary Club in Orleans and Alma, active with the Orleans Housing Authority since 1967, served on the 4-H Fair Board, the Orleans Chamber of Commerce, member of the Harold Morin American Legion Post #184, was a member of the Tehama Shrine of Hastings and a 50 year member of the Jachin Lodge #146 A.F. & A.M.
Besides his parents and his wife, Donna; Dwight was preceded in death by two sons: Jon Derek Bash in June 7, 1992 and Philip Alan Bash on April 8, 2014; and brothers-in-law: Julian Thorell and Dallas Ott.
Dwight is survived by three sons: Jeff Bash of Orleans, Dan Bash and his wife, Lisa of Lincoln, Nebraska and David Bash and his wife, Lori of Waverly, Nebraska; one daughter, Lori Dove and her husband, Greg of Hixon, Tennessee; daughter-in-laws: Tami Horky and her husband, Mike of Kensington, Kansas and Donna Bash of Cedar Falls, Iowa; twelve grandchildren: Gina Pritchard and her husband, Pat, Justin Bash and his wife, Lindsey, Samantha and Jared Dove, Lauren Bash, Peyton, Libby and Parker Bash, and Michael Bash, Derek Bash and his wife, Brittany, and Zachary and Hannah Bash; four great-grandchildren: Taelyn and Sadie Pritchard and Connor and Maddox Bash; sisters-in-law: Pat Thorell of Iowa Falls, Iowa and Virginia Ott of Republican City, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, customers and friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Dwight's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Dwight's honor and will be designated at a later date.
