Dale Earl Wentling, 85 years of age, of Oxford, Nebraska
Memorial Services for Dale E. Wentling will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Paul Ferrarone officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Military honors will be provided at the funeral home by the Stamford American Legion Merlin Palmer Post #233 in conjunction with the United States Army National Guards Military Honors Team.
Dale Earl Wentling, 85 years of age, of Oxford, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the Colonial Villa Good Samaritan Center in Alma, Nebraska. Dale was born September 18, 1927 at Beaver City, Nebraska, the eldest of two sons born to James H. and Emma L. (Haas) Wentling. He received his primary education in rural Furnas County and then graduated from Beaver City High School with the class of 1947.
Following his education, Dale engaged in farming with his father south of Beaver City in the Precept area. He was then inducted into the United States Army on November 3, 1950, serving his country during the Korean War. Dale was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado and Alaska until his honorable discharge on October 15, 1952. He then continued to serve in the Army Reserves until October 9, 1956.
Dale then returned home to the farm. On May 1, 1960 he was united in marriage to Lois Corbin at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford, Nebraska. To this union three children were born: Peggy, Craig, and Scott. The family made their home on a farm west of Stamford, where Dale engaged in farming until his retirement. In 1983, the couple moved into Oxford and Dale was employed by R-3 Enterprises a division of Mid-Nebraska Individual Services.
Dale was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stamford, and also a member of the Stamford American Legion Merlin Palmer Post #233 for 50 years. His hobbies included shooting pool and playing cards with friends and Dale also enjoyed bowling in his younger years. A highlight of Dale's life was following his children and grandchildren's sporting activities. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, LaVern Wentling; sister-in-law, Helen Tams and her husband, Leo; and son-in-law, Randy Maruhn.
Dale leaves to mourn his passing; his wife of almost 53 years, Lois Wentling of Oxford; one daughter, Peggy Maruhn and her fiancĂ©, Randy Emmons of Oxford; two sons: Craig Wentling and his companion, Corey Doles and her son, Gavin all of Oxford, and Scott Wentling and his wife, Mel of Grand Island, Nebraska; four grandsons: Jared and Cole Maruhn and Brendan and Keyin Wentling; sister-in-law, Doris Wentling of Johnson Lake, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Dale's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Dale's honor and will be designated at a later date.
