Arlene LaVerne Kammerer, 79 years of age, of Gothenburg, Nebraska (formerly of Republican City)
Funeral Services for Arlene L. Kammerer will be conducted on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Alma, Nebraska with Reverend Jim Bendorf and Pastor Jeff Cottingham officiating. Interment will be in the Republican City Cemetery at Republican City, Nebraska.
Arlene LaVerne Kammerer, 79 years of age, of Gothenburg, Nebraska (formerly of Republican City), passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Arlene was born March 31, 1934 in Harlan County, Nebraska near Woodruff, Kansas, the youngest of thirteen children born to Holger and Emma (Noren) Christensen. Arlene attended primary schools at District 59 and District 23 country schools in rural Harlan County and graduated from Long Island High School in Long Island, Kansas with the class of 1951.
Following her graduation, Arlene lived in Topeka, Kansas and Redondo Beach, California.
On May 5, 1957, Arlene was united in marriage to Marvin Merle Kammerer at the Methodist Church in Alma and to this union two children were born: Kristi Kay and Kyle Marvin. The family made their home on a farm west of Republican City where they raised cattle, farmed and were active Amway Distributors. Marvin passed away in 1985.
Both Arlene and Marvin were actively involved in the community. Arlene was a former member of the United Methodist Church in Republican City, a member of the Eastern Star, the IMP Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Gothenburg.
In August of 2011, Arlene started to make her home at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg. Arlene enjoyed being closer to her grandchildren and attending their many activities. She enjoyed painting ceramics and raising her family.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin Kammerer; sisters: Mildred Wessels and husband, William, Doris Smith and her husbands, Lyle and Wayne and a sister in infancy; brothers: Raymond Christensen and his wife, LaVerne, Wayne Christensen and his wives, Irene and June, Wesley Christensen, Virgil Christensen, Lawrence Christensen, Darrell Christensen and a brother in infancy.
She is survived by her two children: Kristi Kreuscher and her husband, John of Gothenburg, Nebraska, and Kyle Kammerer and his wife, Lana of Grant, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Shelby Malsbury and her husband, Travis of North Platte, Nebraska, Kaden Kammerer of Grant, and Aaron and Andrew Kreuscher of Gothenburg; great-grandchildren: Kaydence and Shayleigh Ackman and Zarek Malsbury; brothers: Roy Christensen of Edison, Nebraska and Don Christensen and his wife, Jean of Alma; sisters-in-law: Elma Christensen of Alma and June Christensen of Topeka, Kansas; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 16, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bauer-Torrey & Mach Funeral Home in Alma.
A memorial has been established in Arlene's name and can be made to the Republican City Cemetery or the Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund of Gothenburg.
