Boating safety course at North Platte and Ogallala
North Platte Â There will be boating safety courses in North Platte and Ogallala for those needing to complete the course before the boating season is in full swing. Don't wait until summer is here Â get registered now.
May 3 is the date for the North Platte course. This course is the only full course (six-hour) class that will be offered this year in North Platte. The only other option will be the online study course.
The course covers everything from equipment requirements to safe boat operation and accident prevention, and is a great course for both new and experienced boaters.
Class times are 8:30 am to 3pm on May 3. Pre-registration is required by registering online or by calling the North Platte Game and Parks Commission office at 535-8025. The fee is $10.
Ogallala - A six-hour course will also be held in Ogallala at the Mid-Plains Community College Ogallala Extended Campus on April 22 and 24.
Times for the Ogallala course are 6 to 9 pm on Tuesday, April 22 and Thursday, April 22. Students must attend both sessions and there is a $10 fee for the course. Pre-registration is required and there are minimum student requirements for the class to be held.

The Nebraska Boating Safety course is required of all power boat operators born after December 31, 1985, which includes operators of personal watercraft and all other motorboats. The minimum age to operate a motorboat in Nebraska is 14.
Boat owners who complete the class may qualify for insurance discounts. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children and boaters of all ages are welcome. Students must be at least 14, or turning 14 this calendar year to be certified.
