Smith humbled by support as he cruises to primary win

Third District Congressman Adrian Smith of Gering says he remains humbled by the support he receives from Republican party voters in the state.

Smith as expected is rolling to a big win over Bob Lingenfelter in the Republican primary Tuesday with nearly 85 percent of the vote in early returns. Smith told KNEB News that more than ever the politicians in Washington should be concerned they are doing what their constituents want and need.

Smith says he doesn't know much about his Democratic opponent, Doniphan area rancher Mark Sullivan. Sullivan characterizes himself as a moderate who would go to Washington to work with people and find solutions, and says Smith should be fired, claiming he is part of the gridlock in Washington.

Smith says criticism is "just part of the job" as he continues to support less regulation, spending cuts and reform of tax policy that he says is "riddled with loopholes and an uncompetitive corporate tax rate."
