Arlene M. Nelson, 85 years of age, of Holdrege (formerly of Loomis, Nebraska)

Funeral Services for Arlene M. Nelson will be conducted from the Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County, Nebraska.

Arlene M. Nelson, 85 years of age, of Holdrege (formerly of Loomis, Nebraska) passed away on Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Holdrege Memorial Homes. Arlene was born on February 6, 1927 at Holdrege, the 3rd of 4 children born to Hugo and Sarah (Carlson) Abramson. Arlene received her education from Holdrege Public Schools, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1945. Following her education, she worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses prior to her marriage.

On December 12, 1953, Arlene was united in marriage to Dale V. Nelson in Holdrege and the couple were blessed with three children: Bradley Dale, Brenda Lou and Becki Sue. The family made their home one mile north and ¾ mile west of Loomis, where Dale and Arlene engaged in farming and ranching. Arlene was also employed at the Phelps County Courthouse in the court system for several years.

Prior to the church closing, Arlene was active with the United Methodist Church in Loomis, where she taught Sunday and Bible school and involved with youth group. She served as Den Mother for several years, taught Pioneer Girls, active with her children's and grandchildren's activities, and loved to travel. Family was always important to Arlene; she enjoyed the times spent with her siblings and cousins. She also had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews.

On December 18, 2001, Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Dale. In November of 2008, she began to make her home at Holdrege Memorial Homes.
Besides her parents, and husband, Dale, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Brock Derek Nelson; two brothers: Wayne Abramson and Dale Abramson; sister, LaVeda Muthart and her husband, Richard; brother-in-law, Wayne Nelson; niece, Karen Nelson in infancy; and nephew, Donn Nelson.

Arlene leaves to mourn her passing; her son, Bradley Nelson of Grand Island, Nebraska; two daughters: Brenda Weimer of Kearney and Becki Nelson of Olympia, Washington; seven grandchildren: Brandon and his wife, Nicole, Alexis and her husband, Dusty, Brooke and her husband, Jeremy, Brodrick, Brittany, Derrick and Jolissa; five great-grandchildren: Ryan, Jordan, Jade, Jazlyn, and Carter; two sisters-in-laws: Naomi Nelson and Lorraine Abramson both of Holdrege, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Arlene's honor and will be designated at a later date.
