Lincoln Highway celebration to be held in Grand Island

Grand Island has begun preparations for the national celebration of the Lincoln Highway Centennial, which comes to the city and the entire state of Nebraska in 2013. Paul Nielsen, Marketing Manager for the Grand Island/Hall County Convention & Visitors Bureau, says they are working on bringing in C.C. Otto, who has an idea that would serve as a way to remember the Centennial.

"We've been communicating regularly with a singer, C.C. Otto, who has a wonderful idea of doing a travelogue along the highway to commemorate the Centennial. And she found in particular, this was exciting, a piece of music that had never been recorded to her knowledge. And somehow originated from one of the historic theatres here in Grand Island, I believe its at the Capitol Theatre."

Other potential Lincoln Highway Projects include area car shows and an exhibit at Stuhr Museum, according to a press release. Possible auto tours include the Tin Can Tourists vintage RV tour and a Norwegian group trying to take 100 classic cars from coast to coast.

The official event tours start on both coasts on June 22nd and the group coming from New York City will be in Grand Island overnight on Sunday, June 30th.
