Can Care-a-Van comes to Lexington Tuesday
KRVN and 10/11 News are partnering up Tuesday to host the 27th annual Can Care-a-Van food drive in Lexington. The event will take place at Plum Creek Market Place from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Can Care-a-Van is an annual food drive which takes place in communities across Nebraska and northern Kansas each year.
News Anchor, Adam Uhernik from 10/11 talks about the event.
"Since the event began in 1988, we have raised over three million pounds of food," said Uhernik. "Our goal for Tuesday is to collect 1,500 pounds of food. We need pasta, peanut butter, beans, dry rice, cereal, but any donation is welcome. We will be collecting monetary donations as well. It doesn't matter if you bring a few cans of food or a truck load of food, every little bit helps. My favorite thing about this event is that the food donated will stay local, and will help all the people of Lexington."
Heidi Revelo, Chaplain from Tyson Foods also commented on this beneficiary event.
"There is a huge need here in Lexington and it's all year long. Some think of it during the holidays or just one time, but it's all the time. Some companies are cutting hours so those individuals need the help. Any food donation will really help."
The Can Care-a-Van collects canned food, non-perishables, and monetary donations. All of the food collected in the community, stays in the community. For more information, visit 10/11's website below.
