Ruth M. Embrey, 92 years of age of Holdrege, Nebraska

Funeral Services for Ruth M. Embrey will be conducted from the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Mr. Wayne Carlson, officiating. Interment will be held in the Sandstrom Cemetery in rural Phelps County, Nebraska.

Ruth M. Embrey, 92 years of age of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Ruth was born on December 4, 1920 at Holdrege, the second of three children born to Oscar William and Mabel A. (Fagerstone) Sandell. She received her education in Holdrege, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1939.

In May 1939, she was united in marriage to Fred Graham and to this union one daughter, Susan was born. Fred passed away in November of 1942 as the result of a hunting accident. Following the passing of her husband, Fred, Ruth was employed as a telephone operator in downtown Holdrege.

On March 28, 1947, she was united in marriage to Vance E. Embrey and to this union one daughter, Connie was born. The family made their home in Hastings, Nebraska, where Ruth was a devoted homemaker and mother. The couple then returned to Holdrege in 1973 and resided in Ruth's family home. She was employed by Becton-Dickinson for 10 years prior to her retirement. In 1997, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vance. Due to her failing health, Ruth began to make her home at Chrisoma West in 2006.

Ruth enjoyed reading and embroidering. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Free Church of Holdrege, where she was active with the Women's Missionary Society. Her devotion to her Lord remained strong throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands: Fred Graham and Vance Embrey.

She leaves to mourn her passing her two daughters: Susan A. Graham and her husband, George Kracker of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Connie L. Sears and her husband, Dean of Grand Island, Nebraska; six grandchildren: Eric Graham and his wife, Kathi, Elliott Graham and his wife, Cindy, Chelsey May and her husband, Darrel, Carrie Sears-Kohles and her husband, Duane Kohles, John Sears and his wife, Jenny, and Collette VanBorkum and her husband, Albert; 18 great-grandchildren with one on the way; two brothers: Robert Sandell and his wife, Betty of Moscow, Idaho, Harold "Sandy" Sandell and his wife, Marian of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 prior to the services from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Ruth's honor and will be designated at a later date.
