Two Broken Bow coaches, Ansley man killed in head-on crash near Ansley
Three people, including two Broken Bow High School coaches, were killed and eight students were injured in a head-on collision of a school van and a pickup near Ansley.
The Nebraska State Patrol says the preliminary investigation indicates that a pickup, driven by 70-year-old Albert Sherbeck of Ansley crossed the centerline and hit the Broken Bow school van head on. 28-year-old Zane Harvey, the driver of the van, and 24-year-old Anthony Blume, a front-seat passenger were killed. Both Harvey and Blum were coaches at Broken Bow High School.
Eight students were transported to area hospitals. Two were treated and released, and six remain hospitalized, but their conditions are unknown at this time.
The accident occurred just before 4 p-m, just west of Ansley on Highway 2, and forced the closure of the highway for nearly five hours.
The Patrol said the van was taking students on a field trip.
