No Opposition to NP NRD Allocation Extension

There was no opposition to the proposed changes North Platte Natural Resource District allocation Thursday night. A small crowd was on hand for the North Platte Natural Resource District and Nebraska Department of Natural Resources joint hearings on proposed changes to the districts Integrated Management Plan and rules and regulations for ground water management.

The district is proposing a one year extension of 14 inches of water that can be used over the next two years. North Platte NRD Manager Ron Cacek says an extension would allow for more study. The ground and surface water models will determine if the district is meeting the goal of getting back to 1997 water levels. An extension will also provide irrigators with additional options during the drought.

The North Platte NRD board will consider the testimony at their next meeting on Thursday, April 11th at 7pm. DNR will also consider the testimony before making a decision. Both parties will have to agree to move forward for the proposal to go through.
