GMO Inside Claims Victory with General Mills Decision

General Mills says it has changed how it sources and handles ingredients to ensure the corn starch for original Cheerios comes only from non-GMO corn and the sugar is only non-GMO pure cane sugar. According to GMO Inside - 40-thousand Facebook posts were made by consumers taking part in their campaign calling on General Mills to make Cheerios non-GMO. GMO Inside first started calling on consumers to put the pressure on General Mills in November 2012. Green America Corporate Responsibility Director Todd Larsen calls the removal of GMOs from original Cheerios an important victory in getting GMOs out of the food supply. He says this will send a message to all food companies that consumers are increasingly looking for non-GMO products. GMO Inside Co-Founder and Co-Chair John Roulac also says the move by General Mills is a huge victory for the non-GMO movement. The group is now encouraging consumers to let General Mills know it should make all Cheerios non-GMO.
