Funk man earns award

Funk resident Larry Mattson was recognized with the Excellence in Preparedness Education and Outreach award.

Mattson volunteers for the Southwest Nebraska Community Emergency Response Teams to educate and train volunteers. He also helps cross-train them with other disaster response organizations like the Red Cross.

Mattson serves on the Phelps County Community Organizations Active in Disaster group representing the CERT program. He has been active with the group since 2006.

He is currently the Fire Chief for the Funk Fire Department, and has been a volunteer firefighter/EMT for over 25 years.

Mattson has also served on the safety committee, fire brigade, and EMS response at the BD plant.
