Courthouse assault leads to arrest

A 27 year old Scottsbluff man was arrested following an assault in the Scotts Bluff County Courthouse shortly before 9 a.m. Friday.

According to the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Office, 64 year old Thomas Halligan was treated at the scene by Gering Fire Department and Valley Ambulance personnel, and was then treated and released after being transported to Regional West Medical Center. He complained of wrist, shoulder and back injuries.

Sheriff Mark Overman says Halligan and Levi Wood had just left a District Courtroom on the second floor of the courthouse, where they were involved in a protection order hearing. Witnesses stated that Wood shoved Halligan as he was approaching the stairs, causing him to fall down a flight of stairs to a mid-floor landing.

Sheriff's personnel responded immediately and arrested Wood, charging him with one count of third degree assault.
