Grace Madalene Delimont, 90 years of age, of Holdrege (formerly of Stamford)

Funeral Services for Grace M. Delimont will be conducted from the Holdrege Memorial Homes Chapel in Holdrege, Nebraska on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Jean Clayton and Chaplain Daren Popple, officiating. Interment will be held in Stamford Cemetery at Stamford, Nebraska following the services.

Grace Madalene Delimont, 90 years of age, of Holdrege (formerly of Stamford) passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Grace was born October 14, 1922 at Abbot Village, Maine, one of seven children born to William Eddie and Ina Hazel (Thomas) Thomas. She attended school at Guilford, Maine and graduated with the class of 1939. She then continued her education for two years at the FSNS College in Farmington, Maine and then one year at the Gray's Business College in Portland, Maine. Following her education, Grace worked for the U.S. Post Engineers as a bookkeeper in Lubbock, Texas and then was a Provost Marshall for the U.S. Army in North Carolina.

On April 24, 1943, in Almena, Kansas, Grace was united in marriage to Wallace L. Delimont and to this union two children were born: Meredith Dee and Thomas Delwin. The family made their home in Stamford, where Grace enjoyed raising her children and was a loyal farmwife.

In 1956, Grace worked in the ASCS office in Alma, Nebraska for 8 years, and then starting in the 1960's, she worked as a bookkeeper for Better Buys in Oxford, Nebraska and then for Dr. Neil Stuhmer, the optometrist in Alma, for 17 years, until her retirement.

Grace was baptized and a devoted member in the Christian Church in Stamford. Later she transferred her membership to the Evangelical Free Church in Stamford, where she devoted her time as a youth sponsor and also a Sunday school teacher. She was the founder of the Girl Scouts Organization in Stamford and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Stamford. Grace loved gardening, especially tending to her flowers, had a great passion for genealogy, enjoyed crafts and ceramics and also loved to crochet, knit, and sew.

Beside her parents, Grace is preceded in death by her husband, Wallace on September 30, 2001; one daughter, Meredith Dee Torr on October 26, 2012; one son, Thomas Delwin Delimont in 1990; one brother, Blair in December of 1956 and five brothers in infancy.

Grace leaves to mourn her passing; six grandchildren: Julie Stewart and her husband, Judd of Brighton, Colorado, Lynn Torr and his wife, Shari of Denison, Iowa, Del Torr and his wife, Holly of Buckeye, Arizona, Darin Torr and his wife, Jennifer of Fort Lupton, Colorado, Neil Delimont of Baltimore, Maryland and Matt Delimont of Parkville, Maryland; three great-grandsons: Gregory Peake, Nicholas Torr, and Angelo Torr; six great-granddaughters: Ashley and Meghan Torr, Mackenzie Torr, Aubrey, Madison, and Britton Torr; one son-in-law, Don Torr of Casa Grande, Arizona; one daughter-in-law, Deb Delimont of Monkton, Maryland; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Grace's honor and will be designated at a later date.
