Memorial Graveside Services for Larry R. Palmer will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wilsonville Cemetery at Wilsonville, Nebraska with Pastor Craig Cedar officiating. Inurnment will be held at the Wilsonville Cemetery.

Larry Ree Palmer, 80 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. Larry was born August 16, 1933 in Wilsonville, the second of five children born to Ivan Ree and Nellie Lavina (Henry) Palmer. He received his primary education from the Sherman School in Furnas County, Nebraska and then graduated from Wilsonville High School with the class of 1951.

On June 5, 1955, Larry was united in marriage to Opal Marie Hoover and to this union four children were born: William Grady, Rodwrick Ree, Lynna Marie and Dannette Kay. Larry was inducted into the United States Army on April 5, 1956 and was stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge on February 3, 1958. He then served in the Reserve capacity until April 4, 1962. Once returning home from the service, he engaged in farming in Furnas County, south of Wilsonville. He was also the owner and operator of Palmer Trucking Co. hauling grain throughout Nebraska and Colorado. Throughout the years, Larry also had a commodities brokerage office in Holdrege, he was also involved in real estate ventures and owned and operated the New and Used Furniture Auction Company in Cozad, and had ownership in several motels in central Nebraska as well. Larry and Opal moved to Holdrege in 1999.

Larry and Opal attended the Community Church in Wilcox and was a past member of the American Legion in Wilsonville. He enjoyed playing cards and pool, and enjoyed staying busy working on his next project in life.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Rodwrick Ree Palmer; one sister, Jeannette Hollinger; his sister-in-law, Iris Palmer and brother-in-law, Gerald Hoover.

He leaves to mourn his passing; his wife of 58 years, Opal of Holdrege; three children: Grady Palmer and his special friend, Tina Hutchens both of Holbrook, Nebraska, Lynna Palmer of Holdrege and Dannette Doolittle and her husband, Dexter of Katy, Texas; five grandchildren: Kyle, Kacie and Brandi Palmer and Carter and Avery Doolittle; two great-grandchildren: Keyton and Kiya Palmer; one sister, Wanda Sheley and her husband, David of Norton, Kansas; two brothers: Lewis Palmer and his wife, Jane of Cambridge, Nebraska and Leonard Keith Palmer of Phoenix, Arizona; brother-in-law, Gary Hollinger of Carmichael, California; sister-in-law, Mary Hoover of Denton, Nebraska and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Larry's honor and kindly suggested to the Wilcox Community Church or the Phelps County Senior Center.
