Steps Pork Producers Should Take After PEDV Case Confirmed

The National Pork Producers Council, American Association of Swine Veterinarians and Pork Checkoff have compiled different actions for producers to take once a PEDv case has been confirmed on an operation. One action is to communicate with all supervisors, transporters, staff, veterinarians and neighbors about the fact a case has been confirmed. Next - contain the virus and avoid further spread of the virus. Then - establish herd immunity as quickly as possible. From there - producers should work on lactation management with piglets and reduce the pathogen load. Finally - the groups say it's important for the operation to follow biosecurity guidelines published at www dot pork dot org slash PEDV (www.pork.org/PEDV).
