Hazel Irene (Morgan) Lilyhorn, 91 years of age, of Crete, Nebraska (formerly of Holdrege)

Funeral services for Hazel I. Lilyhorn will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, April 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dale Lambert officiating. Interment will be held in the Bostwick Cemetery near Superior, Nebraska at a later date.

Hazel Irene (Morgan) Lilyhorn, 91 years of age, of Crete, Nebraska (formerly of Holdrege), passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Tabitha Journey House in Lincoln. She was born November 13, 1921 in Stockdale, Kansas, the fourth child of John Dempsey and Flora Elizabeth (Castor) Hathaway. Hazel attended school in Zeandale, Kansas through the second grade and then attended school in Superior, Nebraska graduating with the Superior High School class of 1939.
On December 24, 1940, Hazel was united in marriage to Donald Lowe Morgan of Bostwick, Nebraska. She had three daughters: Michele Dawn, Mary Jean, and Gail Louise. The family made their home on the west coast and Nebraska. Donald passed away in 1989. On March 28, 1990 she was united in marriage to Jack Leo Lilyhorn and the couple made their home in Holdrege. Jack passed away in 2010.

Hazel was employed as a department store sales clerk. During World War II Hazel worked as a welder in the shipyards at Bremerton, Washington. She was an original "Rosie the Riveter."

Hazel was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, cross word puzzles and family and friendships. She was an accomplished bowler, attending the Nebraska State Bowling Tournaments well into her 80s.

Besides her parents and two husbands, Hazel was preceded in death by one brother: John Delbert Hathaway; and four sisters; Evelyn Edith Vaughan, Esther LaVerne Beck, Louise Geneva Robbins and Velma Elizabeth Boog.

She leaves to mourn her passing her three children: Michele Dawn "Mickey" VanDyke and her husband, Stephen of Crete, Nebraska, Mary Jean Saxton and her husband, Roger Will of Burlington, Iowa, Gail Louise Chervo of Newport, Oregon; 4 grandchildren: Deborah Lynn VanDyke-Ries and her husband, Paul and their children, Sidney Morgan, Quinn Patrick and Maison Michele of Lincoln, Jeffery Morgan Saxton and his wife, Tricia and their children, Jeshua Charles, Elyse Morgan and Isabella Marie, Kelly Anne Dodd and her husband, Thad and their daughters, McKenna Reagan and Madison Ashton of Lincoln, Stephen Morgan VanDyke and his wife, Jennifer and their daughters, Thea Morgan and Sophia Cook; one sister, Lillian Kirsch of St Helens, Oregon; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. with the family hosting fellowship from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home at Holdrege.

A memorial will be established in Hazel's honor and will be designated at a later date.
