Harold Duane Raburn, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska
Memorial Celebration for Harold D. Raburn will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska with Reverend Jeff Adams officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at the Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge, Nebraska at a later date.
Harold Duane Raburn, 83 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at the Bryan LGH- East Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was born April 24, 1930 at Norcatur, Kansas, the second of four sons born to Floyd and Viola (Hale) Raburn. Harold received his education at Bartley, Nebraska, graduating from Bartley High School. He then pursued higher education at McCook Junior College, Chadron State College and later received his Master's Degree in Education at Colorado State University at Greeley, Colorado.
On July 5, 1946 he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Marian Burton at Oberlin, Kansas and to this union three children were born: Geanene, Danny and Terri. The couple made their home at Bartley, Nebraska while in college and then relocated to Indianola, Nebraska, where Harold began his teaching career. Harold taught in Indianola Junior and Senior High Schools, and was especially proud of coaching football and basketball, where his teams played in the State Basketball Tournament for two years. Harold then became the High School Principal and Coach at Decatur County High School in Oberlin, Kansas. He then pursued his passion of Pharmacy School in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Following graduation the family made their home in Holdrege, where Harold owned and operated Raburn Pharmacy in Holdrege until his retirement. In his retirement years, Harold continued to practice part-time for Mike's U-Save Pharmacy for several years until December of 2010. He also worked part-time at Litzenberg Hospital in Central City, Nebraska as a Pharmacist with his son-in-law, Ron.
Harold was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, where through the years he served in many capacities. He was also involved with the B.P.O. Elks Lodge, where he was a past Exalted Ruler, the Eagle's, Shriners, Masonic Lodge, and currently served his constituents on the Phelps County Board of Supervisors. He also enjoyed a passion for flying as a private pilot.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Crystal Raburn; two brothers: Jasper in infancy and Darold Raburn and his wife, Sharon.
Harold leaves to mourn his passing; his wife of 67 years, Marian of Holdrege; three children: Geanene Schafer and her husband, Ron of Central City, Danny Raburn of Holdrege, and Terri Raburn of Lincoln;
four grandchildren: Amanda Olson and her husband, Joseph of Holdrege, Geri Raburn and her fiancĂ©, John Ingraham of Holdrege, Tiffany Eggleston and her husband, Matt of Aurora, Nebraska and Jonathan Schafer of Lincoln; eight great-grandchildren: Alexis, Trystin, Lainey, Adriene, Jaren, Ella, and twins: Makinley and Quincey; one brother, Robert "Joe" Raburn and his wife, Lorene of Cambridge, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial book signing will be held on Monday, September 23, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Harold's honor and kindly suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Holdrege Public Library.
