Maxine (Hunter) DeBord, 97 years of age, of Beatrice, Nebraska (formerly of Orleans)
Funeral Services for Maxine DeBord will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans, Nebraska with Pastor Dave Irwin officiating. Interment will be held in the Orleans Cemetery.
Maxine (Hunter) DeBord, 97 years of age, of Beatrice, Nebraska (formerly of Orleans) passed away at the Beatrice Health and Rehabilitation Center in Beatrice on Sunday, August 18, 2013. Maxine was born April 22, 1916, five miles south of Trenton in Hitchcock County, Nebraska, one of five daughters born to James Thomas and Lillian Olive (Miller) Hunter. Her father, James died in February 1920 due to the 1918 influenza epidemic. After her father's death, her mother moved the family to Orleans to live with her parents, Daniel and Delana (Finney) Miller.
As a child, Maxine was baptized in the Methodist faith in Orleans with her aunt and uncle, Ednie and Hattie Miller as sponsors. She attended school in Orleans, except for the 8th grade, when she studied at Spring Brook School, a country school south of Orleans.
After her education, Maxine lived in Fairbury, Nebraska from 1934 to 1959, during which time she married A. C. "Bud" Otto and was blessed with two daughters: Deloris and Virginia. Maxine later married Frank E. DeBord and was again blessed with daughters: Katherine, Patricia and Mary Ann. Maxine and Frank were married for 29 years until his death in 1976. Maxine moved to Beatrice, Nebraska in 1983 to be close to her daughter, Virginia and son-in-law, Lawrence.
Maxine enjoyed crafts, sewing, cooking, traveling, reading, walking, garage sales and writing letters to friends and family.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank DeBord; daughters: Katherine Jane (DeBord) Holliday, Mary Ann (DeBord) Ward; three sisters: Blanch Viles, Agnes Russell and Irene Perry; one grandson, Greg A. McCord; and one granddaughter, Valerie Lewandowski.
She is survived by her daughters: Deloris Dickenson and Virginia Hagemeier and her husband, Lawrence all of Beatrice, Nebraska, Patricia Poole and her husband, Paul of Aurora, Colorado; many loving grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Pauline Bantam of Alma, Nebraska.
Visitation will be held at the Mitchell Funeral Home in Orleans on Friday, August 23, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the services.
A memorial has been established in Maxine's honor and will be designated at a later date.
