Graveside Services for Eldon E. Watson will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Oxford Cemetery, in Oxford Nebraska with Pastor Kirk Einspahr officiating, with burial to follow in the family plot.
Eldon Earl Watson, 85 years of age, of Edison, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. He was born May 18, 1928 in Oxford, Nebraska, the youngest of three children born to Earl Raymond and Leila (Richardson) Watson. He received his primary education at the New Era Country School until the 8th grade. He then went to live with his older sister, Helene in Beaver City, Nebraska for his freshman year of high school and later graduated as valedictorian from Oxford High School with the class of 1946.
Following his graduation, Eldon was involved in the family farm, west of Oxford. Eldon bought a small herd of Herford cattle, which he pampered and spoiled. He had a special bond with his cattle.
As a young man, Eldon attended the Oxford United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir.
For several years, Eldon had an antique business and enjoyed the friendships made over those years.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin R. Watson and sister, Helene Downing and her husband, Fenworth.
He leaves to mourn his passing one niece; Rita Neibaur and her husband, Richard of Scottsdale, Arizona; two nephews: Roger Watson and his wife, Pam of Elwood, Nebraska and Ed Watson and his wife, Wanda of Townsend, Montana; along with several great-nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford.
Memorials can be made to a charity of your choice in Eldon's honor.
