Braden James Badertscher, 17 years of age, of Holdrege, lost his battle with a rare and aggressive cancer and passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the University of Nebraska - Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Braden was born February 20, 1996 at Kearney, Nebraska, the eldest of two sons born to Tony L. and Jane L. (Hoke) Badertscher. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Braden received his education and was going to experience his Senior year and graduate with the Class of 2014. Braden was active in the Holdrege Chapter of the Future Farmers of America, which was his niche of school activities. He earned his State Degree in F.F.A. this year, which involved being selected as one of 30 Junior students throughout the State of Nebraska. His SAE Project for F.F.A. was the restoration of a tractor with his father, Tony. This project won state and qualified him for Nationals. His love for agriculture and the outdoors began when he was very young. He enjoyed hunting with his Dad, brother and uncle, and his involvement in 4-H shooting sports. Braden also participated in the Summer Honors Program at Holdrege High School for three years.
He was an inspiration to his family and friends regarding his strength and courage as he battled his illness without a complaint or blame. Braden had a special knack of relating to young people, which included his younger cousins that looked up to him with great admiration. Most of all the bond he had with his brother, Tyler helped mold the person he was.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, James Hoke and his great-grandparents: Mervin Ottemann and Eldon Badertscher, Donald and Jerry Keiss, and Raymond and Malinda Hoke.
Braden leaves to mourn his passing; his parents: Tony and Jane Badertscher; brother, Tyler Badertscher all of Holdrege; grandparents: Roger and Joyce Badertscher of Tecumseh, Nebraska, Linda Hoke of Elk Creek, Nebraska; great-grandmothers: Aloma Badertscher of Tecumseh and Lila Ottemann of Elk Creek; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 28, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
