Roland E. "Ron" Petersen, 77, of Arcadia passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the Valley County Health System in Ord.
A Celebration of Life Will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the Arcadia United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Jeff D. Hale officiating. Burial will be in the Arcadia Cemetery. Military Honors will be presented by the Arcadia American Legion Post #251 and U.S. Navy Funeral Honors. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Arcadia United Methodist Church. Memorials are suggested to the Arcadia Fire and Rescue Department, Arcadia Library or the Arcadia United Methodist Church. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. '
Ronald Earl "Ron" was born January 29, 1937, to Earl B. and Josephine (McNeice) Petersen at
Culbertson, Nebraska. He received his education in Culbertson until 1947 when he moved with his
parents to Stratton. He graduated from Stratton High School in 1955.
Ron attended McCook Junior College and received his B.S. in Business Administration from the
University of Nebraska in 1970. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November of 1955, and served in active duty until November of 1959.
Ron married Betty Meguire. The couple's children are IVIark and Michelle. On October 3, 1987, Ron
was united in marriage to Shirley (Leininger) Wilson at Lexington, NE.
In 1988, Ron and Shirley moved to the Leininger family farm at Arcadia.
Ron was employed at several ag-related jobs. After moving to Arcadia he Worked at Trotter Lumber,
then Maschka's Building Center.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Arcadia. Ron especially enjoyed the outdoors
and collecting old cars and milk separators.
Survivors include Wife Shirley; a daughter, Michelle Biggert and her husband, Henry; a son, Mark
Petersen and his Wife, Jamee; step-children, Dick and Roxie Wilson, Susan Wilson, Rodney Wilson,
Billy Wilson, and Tony Wilson; three grandchildren, Blake Petersen, and Lindsey and Preston Biggert;
13 step-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Doug
Eller; a brother and sister-in-Iaw, Roddy and Rebecca Petersen; sisters-and brothers-in-Iaw, Ruth
Mundt, Ronald and Mitzi Leininger, Retta and Dale Bettenhausen, and Carol and Doug Zikmund;
special cousins, Gary and Renetta Simms; and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Bill and Alma Leininger; a brother, Merwyn
Petersen; a sister, Joyce Blake; and brothers-in-law, Darold Blake, William B. Leininger, and Leon
