Glenn Irvin Poppert, 79, Holdrege, Nebraska
Memorial Services for Glenn I. Poppert will be conducted from Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Jamie Strickler officiating. Private family burial will be held prior to the services at the Elm Creek Cemetery in Elm Creek, Nebraska.
Glenn Irvin Poppert, 79 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. He was born January 16, 1933 at Oxford, Nebraska, the eldest of three children born to Russell G. and Gladys E. (Eliker) Poppert. He received his primary education from the Stamford Public School until he moved to a farm with his family north of Holdrege when he was 11 years of age. He then attended school at Holdrege, graduating from Holdrege High School with the class of 1950.
On January 20, 1955 he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on October 30, 1956. He then served in a Reserve capacity.
On February 2, 1958 he was united in marriage to Bonnie Lee Kearney and to this union four children were born: Glenn Lee, Todd Allen, Timothy George and DeeAnne. The family made their home north of Holdrege, where Glenn engaged in farming. Glenn's work was his passion. Later in years, he was employed as an insurance adjuster for the Rain and Hail Insurance Company until his retirement.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, a past school board member of Phelps County District R-5, and a past member of the American Legion and Elks Lodge.
Besides his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by one son, Timothy George Poppert in infancy; and a sister-in-law, Colette Kearney.
Glenn leaves to mourn his passing; his wife, Bonnie of Holdrege; two sons: Glenn L. "Pete" Poppert and his wife, Jean of Lincoln, Nebraska, Todd A. Poppert and his wife, Bambe of Axtell, Nebraska; one daughter, DeeAnne Hale and her husband, Doug of Kearney, Nebraska; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Beth Asche and her husband, Wes of Omaha, Nebraska, Donna Lindgren and her husband, Keith of Manhattan, Kansas; two brothers-in-law: Donald Kearney and Robert Kearney and his wife, Kathy all of Kearney, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in his memory and kindly suggested to the Nebraska State Stroke Association or the Bethel Lutheran Church.
