Karen Rae Priester, 74, of Holdrege, Nebraska

Funeral Services for Karen R. Priester will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Dale Lambert officiating. Interment will be held at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege.

Karen Rae Priester, 74 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at the Southlake Village Rehabilitation and Care Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. Karen was born on July 11, 1938 at North Platte, Nebraska, the eldest of two children born to Wilmer and Agnes (Haugland) Van Pelt. She grew up at Paxton, Nebraska, where she graduated from Paxton High School with the class of 1956. Karen then pursued higher education at Kearney State College at Kearney, Nebraska, where she received her bachelor's degree in Business and Education in 1960.

On May 31, 1959, she was united in marriage to Marvin "Al" Priester at Paxton and to this union two sons were born: Mark and Cory. The couple made their home in Holdrege, where Karen taught business education at Holdrege High School for three years. While raising her boys, she served as part-time church Treasurer for the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege. In 1980, Karen joined the staff of the First National Bank of Holdrege, where she was employed for 23 years until her retirement in 2003.

Karen was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Holdrege, where she was involved with the United Methodist Women and served in other capacities.

Her hands were always busy caring for her family and her home, sewing, cooking and baking. She especially enjoyed traveling with Al, seeing the countryside. Her grandchildren brought special joy to her life with all of their love and excitement. On August 30, 2008, she was preceded in death by her husband Al.

Besides her husband, Al; she was preceded in death by her parents; and brother-in-law, Eldon Priester.

She leaves to mourn her passing; her two sons: Mark Priester and his wife, Deb of Lincoln and Cory Priester and his wife, Sharyl of Grand Island, Nebraska; five grandchildren: Geoffrey, Skyler, Micheal, Anthony and Alyssa; one brother, John Van Pelt and his wife, Barb of Paxton; two brothers-in-law: Austin Priester of Beaver City, Nebraska and Olin Priester of Sandy, Utah; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Hayward of Estacada, Oregon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Thursday, March 28, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Karen's honor and kindly suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Holdrege.
