Private family graveside services for Betty M. Shaw will be held at a later date in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Logan, Kansas.
Betty Maxine Shaw, 93 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Phillipsburg, Kansas), passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. She was born on May 22, 1921 at Logan, Kansas, the eldest of two children born to Clarence and Eva (Botkin) Brunson. She attended school at Logan, graduating from Logan High School with the class of 1939.
Following her education, she was united in marriage to Harold Gasser, a pilot who was killed in action in World War II.
On February 18, 1946, she was united in marriage to Fred Shaw and the couple adopted three sons: Terry, Eddy and Robert. The family made their home in Norton, Kansas, Sapulpa, Oklahoma and Tulsa, Oklahoma. The family then settled down in Phillipsburg, Kansas, where she resided until 2004 when she began to make her home at the Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege.
During her career, Betty was employed as an AVON Representative for over 50 years.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Phillipsburg and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Betty loved gardening and especially enjoyed family gatherings.
Besides her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by; her sister, Lorine Pfortmiller; a son, Terry; and niece, Regina Woods.
Betty is survived by her two sons: Robert and Eddy of Oklahoma; one brother-in-law, Leonard Pfortmiller; and nieces and nephews including: C. Richard Hite of Holdrege, Tim Pfortmiller and his wife, Diane of Rogers, Arkansas, Yolanda Moll and her husband, Randy of Gentry, Arkansas, Phillip Pfortmiller and his wife, Mary, and Matthew Pfortmiller all of Stuttgart, Kansas; a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation as the family is honoring Betty's wish for cremation.
A memorial has been established in Betty's honor and will be designated at later date.
