MPCC honors railroad as 'Friend of the College'
At the Wednesday meeting of the Mid-Plains Community College Board of Governors, Union Pacific Railroad was formally recognized with the Friend of the College 2013 award.
Railroad Superintendent Tony Orr and employee Erik Erikson accepted the award on behalf of UPRR. College President Ryan Purdy said UPRR has long been a supporter of the community college structure.
Purdy said as a result of cooperative efforts between the college and the railroad, more than 12,000 non-duplicated UPRR employees have received craft training at Mid-Plains Community College.
The board also heard a report about the financial audit for the 2012-2013 school year. Bob Beran, a CPA with Dana F. Cole and Company, reported the audit found no material concerns or issues, according to a statement from the college. The statement added that Beran reported the college is in "excellent financial condition."
The college is required by law to be audited by an independent firm each year. The Board voted to accept the audit.
