Irene Victoria Hazlett, 94, of Holdrege, Nebraska (formerly of Loomis)

Funeral Services for Irene V. Hazlett will be conducted on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Loomis, Nebraska with Pastor Tom Thompson and Chaplain DeWane Dow officiating. Interment will be in the Moses Hill Cemetery in Phelps County, Nebraska.

Irene Victoria Hazlett, 94 years of age, of Holdrege, (formerly of Loomis), passed away on Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege. She was born on April 21, 1918 in Phelps County, south of Loomis, Nebraska, the youngest of three children born to Carl Oscar and Signey Victoria (Sunblade) Young. Irene received her primary education from District #32 in Phelps County and then graduated from Loomis High School with the class of 1935.

Irene married the love of her life, Grant Windsor Hazlett on May 28, 1944 and to this union two children were born: Carmen Irene and Thomas Fredrick.

Prior to her marriage, Irene worked for eight years at the Triple A office in Holdrege. When the children were young, she focused on the needs of the family as a homemaker. She then worked as a postal clerk for the Loomis Post Office for over 20 years until her retirement in 1975.

Irene was an active member in the Evangelical Free Church in Loomis, where she served as a past Sunday school teacher, member of the choir, Women's Missionary Society, and a past president of the Cradle Roll. She was also involved and active with various camping chapters and was involved with the women's group called the Homebuilders Club.

Besides being a loyal wife and mother, Irene enjoyed bowling, camping and especially loved to sing. On May 23, 2012 she was preceded in death by her husband, Grant.

Besides Irene's parents and loving husband of 68 years, Grant, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Michelle Leigh Hazlett; one brother, LaVern Young; one sister, Doris Waller and her husband Charles; three brothers-in-laws: James C. Hazlett, Jr. and his wife, Ina, Duane L. Hazlett and William Hazlett in infancy; two sisters-in-laws: Donna Schroeder and her husband, Kenneth and Betty Lou Veach.

Irene leaves to mourn her passing; her daughter, Carmen Limbach and her husband, Joe of Kearney, Nebraska; son, Tom Hazlett and his wife, Mim of Holdrege; seven grandchildren: David Limbach and his wife, Beth of Kearney, Tracy Hazlett and his wife, Sharyl of Columbus, Nebraska, Daniel Limbach and his wife, Katie of Kearney, Andrea Potthoff and her husband, Troy of Kearney, Donn Hazlett and his wife, Jamie of Holdrege, Ben Hazlett of Ashland, Nebraska and Chris Limbach and his wife, Megan of Ft. Hood, Texas; nineteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.

A memorial has been established in Irene's honor and is kindly suggested to the Loomis Evangelical Free Church or the American Diabetes Association.
