Myrtle Marie Anderson, 98 years of age of Holdrege, Nebraska
Memorial Services for Myrtle M. Anderson will be conducted from the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege, Nebraska on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. W. Kirwin Stewart, Jr. officiating. Private Family inurnment will be in Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, Nebraska prior to the memorial service.
Myrtle Marie Anderson, 98 years of age of Holdrege passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Myrtle was born January 30, 1915 at Stamford, Nebraska, the youngest of seven children born to George Albert and Marion Christen (Larsen) Clements. Myrtle attended school at Hendley, Nebraska and graduated from Hendley High School with the class of 1932. Following her education, Myrtle relocated to Holdrege where she was employed as a bookkeeper for William F. Anderson Plumbing Company until 1941.
On May 27, 1934, she was united in marriage to Leonard R. Anderson and the couple was blessed with two children: Terrance Robert and Kathleen Marie. The family made their home in Holdrege, where Myrtle enjoyed her life as a homemaker and mother while the children were young. When the children were in their high school years, Myrtle returned to the work field as a bookkeeper for C.S. Nelson Furniture and Home Decorating Company until her retirement. In 1983, Leonard preceded her in death.
Myrtle was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege for over 66 years. She was also a member of the Nebraska Prairie Museum, and the "Hard Times Club." Myrtle enjoyed reading, knitting and was an avid bridge player. She enjoyed teaching many friends how to play bridge and knit.
Beside her parents and husband, Leonard, Myrtle is preceded in death by her three sisters: Hazel Anderson,
Edythe White and her husband, Eldred, and Erma L'Heureux and her husband, Eugene; three brothers: Harold Clements and his wife, Grace, Victor Lynn Clements, in infancy, and Cecil Clements and his wife, Geneava.
Myrtle leaves to mourn her passing; one son, Terrance "Terry" Anderson and his wife, Jan of Denver, Colorado; one daughter, Kathleen "Kathy" Anderson, of Holdrege, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Christopher Anderson of Denver, Colorado, Katherine Smith of Denver, Eric Anderson and his wife, Kim of Algonquin, Illinois, and Kenneth Barrios of Denver; seven great-grandchildren: Sylena Harper, Nate Anderson, Treat Smith, Taryn Smith, Carter Smith, Callie Anderson, and Emily Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation, the family is honoring Myrtle's wish for cremation.
In Myrtle's honor, a Memorial Scholarship Fund will be established or memorials can be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Holdrege.
