Norfolk High School gets Carson Foundation grant
NORFOLK, Neb. (AP) _ The John W. Carson Foundation has awarded a $425,000 grant to Norfolk High School so it can upgrade the school's Johnny Carson Theatre.
According to reports, the money will go toward new stage curtains and rigging and toward sound and lighting improvements.
The district's associate superintendent of student services, Doug Witte, says the project will begin after the holidays.
Witte says ``it would be nice to have everything done by next fall.''
The theater was built as part of a bond issue, but an additional $600,000 was donated by Carson in 1991.
Carson was the longtime host of television's ``The Tonight Show.'' He was born in Corning, Iowa, grew up in Norfolk, Neb., and attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He died in California in 2005.
