Shirley May Olson, 82 years of age, of Holdrege (formerly of Funk, Nebraska)

Funeral services for Shirley M. Olson will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Jean Clayton and Chaplain Daren Popple officiating. Interment will follow the services in the Fridhem Cemetery at Funk, Nebraska.

Shirley May Olson, 82 years of age, of Holdrege (formerly of Funk, Nebraska), passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. She was born October 31, 1930 in Minden, Nebraska, the middle child of Emil L. and Pearl M. (Webster) Forslund. Shirley received her education in the Minden Public Schools.

On March 20, 1948, Shirley was united in marriage to Allen M. Olson of Norman, Nebraska and to this union four children were born: Sherry, Bruce, Barbara, and Lonnie. The Olson's moved from Minden to Funk in 1951 for Allen's employment with Lundquist Brothers Farm and Implement Company.

Shirley was employed at JC Penney's in Holdrege from 1960 until its closing in 1991. Her hobbies included: gardening, art, reading, and baking – especially her delicious strawberry-rhubarb pie. She loved music, and was a faithful Fridhem Lutheran Church Choir member for over 50 years. Shirley also taught Sunday and Bible School and was active in Altar Guild, Circle activities, quilting, and the Music & Worship Committee.

Besides her parents; Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Allen; son, Bruce; and brother, Lee Forslund.

Shirley leaves to mourn her passing; her three children: Sherry Neese and her husband, Roy of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Barbara "BJ" Manire and her husband, Bill of Springfield, Nebraska, and Lon Olson and his wife, Wendy of Fremont, Nebraska; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and a sister, Darlene Lehmann of Gaylord, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 29, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family hosting fellowship from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home at Holdrege.

A memorial will be established in Shirley's honor for the benefit of the Fridhem Cemetery at Funk.
