Funeral Services for Betty M. White will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege, Nebraska with Pastor Jim Bendorf officiating. Burial will follow at the Elwood Cemetery, Elwood, Nebraska.
Betty Muriel White, 91 years of age, of Bertrand, formerly of Orleans, Nebraska, died on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at the Bertrand Nursing Home in Bertrand. Betty was born January 23, 1926 in Elwood, Nebraska, the eldest of nine children born to Joseph Beryl and Mary Nettie (Taft) Lawhead. She received her education from Gosper Rural, Elwood, Smithfield and Minitare Schools.
On April 28, 1940, Betty was united in marriage to Howard William White in Norton, Kansas. To this union four children were born: Carl, Larry, Roland and Gary. The family lived on a farm near Elwood until 1948 when they moved to Lexington, Nebraska. The family made their home in several communities in California, including: Los Angeles, Porterville and Mendota, where Betty worked at Hugh’s Aircraft. Howard preceded her in death.
On February 16, 1957, Betty was united in marriage to Lum White in Porterville. To this union two sons were born: Lum, Jr. and Nodle. They lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming and several communities in Nebraska including: Lexington, Holdrege, Elm Creek, Funk, Bloomington, and Kearney.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Howard and Lum, Sr.; two sons: Gary White in infancy and Larry White; a brother, Virgil Lawhead and a sister, Goldie Herrmick.
She leaves to celebrate her life; her sons: Carl White and his wife, Beverly of Holdrege, Roland White and his wife, Marlene of Bertrand and Nodle White and his wife, Nicki of Orleans, Nebraska; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Irene White of Bertrand; along with many step-siblings and adopted siblings, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Betty’s honor and kindly suggested to the American Red Cross or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
