George Robert Runck, 91 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Sunday, at the Christian Homes Care Community at Holdrege. He was born on December 16, 1926 at Republican City, the youngest of four children born to John J. and Lena M. (Ott) Runck. George received his primary education from the Carter School in Harlan County, and graduated from Oxford High School with the class of 1944.
Following his education, George was inducted into the United States Army, and served his country during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in March of 1948.
On April 25, 1952, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Tockey, and to this union two children were born: Scott and Jill. The family made their home on the family farm east of Oxford, where George engaged in his life-long passion of farming and Ag related businesses.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oxford, and was also a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. George was an avid hunter and fisherman, and those who knew George well can recall many stories that he loved to share with his family and friends.
Besides his parents, George was preceded in death by his daughter, Jill J. Pulley and her husband, Jeff; one brother, Ivan; and two sisters: Della Taylor and Aileen Waltner.
He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife of almost 66 years, Mary Runck of Holdrege; one son, Scott Runck and his wife, Sue of Hastings, Nebraska; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
