Celebration of Life Service for Ronald J. Uribe will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Holdrege, Nebraska, with Pastor Kenton Birtell officiating. Following the traditional visitation and funeral, cremation will take place and a private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Ronald Joe Uribe, 68 years of age, of Holdrege, passed away unexpectedly at the ProMedica Toledo Hospital in Toledo, Ohio on October 4, 2017. He was born on December 13, 1948 in Fremont, Nebraska, the eldest of five children born to Joe and Janet (Pearson) Uribe. Ron graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School in 1967, and then pursued higher education from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1971. In 1975, he received his Master’s degree from Kearney State College.

Ron was united in marriage to Kathy Goeschel on May 27, 1972, after meeting each other at a school dance. To this union two children were born: Ryan and Kaycee. After moving to Holdrege, Ron began his teaching career at Holdrege Public Schools. Ron continued to teach with the district for 34 years. During summers, Ron painted houses in the local community.  After retiring from teaching, Ron worked at Allmand Brothers for six years.

Ron was a lifelong educator with an insatiable love of geography.  He touched a countless number of lives both inside and outside of the classroom.  Ron was a member of the Nebraska State Education Association, and Holdrege Education Association.   During Ron’s career as a teacher, he taught three generations of students from families throughout the Holdrege community.   He was involved in numerous school activities including: coaching trap shooting and wrestling, driving buses, and supporting the school bands.  Within the community, Ron tirelessly volunteered his time with numerous organizations.  He volunteered as an instructor for the Nebraska Firearm Hunter Safety Education program for 41 years, served as a 40 year member of the Lions Club (serving as president several times), mentored through the TeamMates program for local youth, volunteered with Backpack Blessings, and was active in many roles within his church.

Ron enjoyed numerous hobbies.  He found joy in photography, fishing, hunting, collecting thousands of postcards, hundreds of license plates and traveling. Ron was an avid reader of books, newspapers, magazines, and was a tireless supporter of public libraries.  He loved to share his thoughts, and feelings through his writings.  Ron had a true passion for education, and sharing his knowledge with everyone he met.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Janet Uribe.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Kathy Uribe of Holdrege; his two children: Ryan Uribe and his wife, Aleta Anthony-Uribe of Rochester, New York, and Kaycee Hardiman and her husband, Jabari of Toledo; the precious love of his life, his grandson, Zaire, and two step-grandchildren: Tariq and Kya; siblings: Christy Martin and her husband, Mike of Ft. Worth, Texas, Randy Uribe of Valparaiso, Nebraska, Lori Uribe of Eagle, Nebraska, Carri Honz and her husband, Dave of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Judy Hanika and her husband, Rick of Lincoln; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Thursday, October 12, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Ron’s honor and kindly suggested to the family to support the TeamMates Mentoring Program and the Lions Club in Holdrege.
