Viola Evelyn Wohleb 97 years of age, of Naponee, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the Independence House in Lincoln. Viola was born on August 24, 1921, on the family farm, northwest of Naponee in Harlan County, Nebraska, the youngest of four children born to Stephen and Anna (Godeken) Dobberstein. She received her education at Naponee, graduating from Naponee High School with the class of 1939.
On January 21, 1946, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Lawrence Wohleb, and to this union four children were born: Sheila, Rita, Mariann, and Jerome. The family made their home in Naponee for 68 years of marriage, where Viola was a devoted homemaker. She focused her efforts raising the family, was an avid gardener, and had a special interest in flowers. In fact, the porch looked like a greenhouse every Fall, Winter and Spring.
Viola was a very devoted member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Naponee, where she cleaned, provided beautiful floral arrangements, and helped with various projects when presented. Viola also belonged to the local women’s club for several years, where many friendship bonds were formed. On December 6, 2014, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence.
Besides her husband, Lawrence, and her parents, Viola was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Adolph and Mary Wohleb; sisters: Elvira Sullivan, Irene Redman, and Mariah Bevins; and two brothers-in-law: Paul Hupf and Ralph Wohleb.
She leaves to mourn her passing; three daughters: Sheila Downey and her husband, Mike of Naponee; Rita Bevans and her husband, Brian of Waverly, Nebraska; and Mariann Bevins and her husband, Bob of Lincoln, Nebraska; one son, Jerome Wohleb and his wife, Janet of Lincoln; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Gladys Hupf of Hastings, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
