During the month of September, twenty persons were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways, according to data collected by the Nebraska Department of Roads.
These 20 fatalities occurred in 17 crashes. Five of the 15 vehicle occupants killed were not using safety belts. Five fatalities occurred on the interstate, eight happened on non-interstate highways, and seven took place on local roads. Eleven of the 20 fatalities were age 65 or older, eight were age 75 or older.
There were 21 fatalities in September of 2015. Ninety-three of the 139 vehicle occupants killed during 2016 were not using safety belts.
