Leadership Scottsbluff’s 29th class handed out checks Wednesday to four non-profit organizations from proceeds at their Hoops for Heroes event March 16th.

United Way of Western Nebraska, Finders Keepers and the Riverside Discovery Center each received checks of $9,000 while Life Change Connection got a check for $5,000.

Class spokesperson Martin Mickey says the checks represent agencies that are serving children at different phases in their lives.

Mickey said, “We looked at how we could impact children in an emergency situation,  in a life-sustaining situation and a qualify of life situation. And then of course we have a continuing partnership with Life Change Connection .”

Mickey says the participants in the Leadership Scottsbluff classes gain community awareness and relationships they otherwise would not be able to gain in such a short period of time.
