After 30 years leading a very successful DECA program at Scottsbluff High School, Derek Deaver is taking on a new challenge.
Deaver at the beginning of the next school year will be the new internship director at the high school, a position established with the advent of the new Career Academies at SHS.
Deaver says some of his students in marketing and business classes and in DECA have served internships at businesses, but this will give students in all areas of learning a chance to experience what it’s like to be part of those business sectors.
Deaver says they will start out slow and involve mostly seniors the first year and gradually grow the program to include more juniors and underclassmen.
Deaver says he will still be in the background of the DECA program. But with his move it will allow young faculty members Brook Talkington, Justin Gipe, and McKenzie Koncaba, all of whom have been advisors and students in the program, to take over the leadership role.
