Two arrests have been made in two armed robberies and a motor vehicle theft over the weekend in Cozad. The first robbery occurred around midnight Saturday when two masked subjects, one armed with a gun, forcibly entered a residence and assaulted one of the occupants. It’s believed a third subject waited outside. Money and credit cards were stolen. Then around 2:00am Sunday, suspects contacted customers at the Casey’s convenience store and followed them to their room at the Circle S Motel. One of the suspects was armed with a gun and money and credit cards were taken at gunpoint from two men according to the Cozad Police Department.
The pickup, a 1998 Ford F-150, was believed to have been stolen sometime on September 24th or 25th from an automotive shop along with several car radios and a subwoofer box with speakers. Cozad Police Sgt. John Peden says the pickup was recovered in Kearney on Monday when Kearney Police pulled it over on a traffic stop for no license plates. The individual driving the truck had apparently bought the truck through an online sales ad.
Sgt. Peden says law enforcement received information that suspects in the cases were traveling in a vehicle from Cozad to Lexington Tuesday morning. They were taken into custody following a traffic stop but, further information on the traffic stop was not available. Sgt. Peden says they “got a good break” in the case with the recovery of the stolen pickup.
Arrested was 27-year-old Joseph Pittman of Wyoming on two counts of robbery and possession of stolen property. He also had two warrants for his arrest in Wyoming. Jewel Ramirez, age 25 of Cozad, was held on charges of Possession of Stolen Property and Motor Vehicle Theft. Sgt. Peden says one other suspect is still being sought.
