Fremont is getting an Aldi’s Grocery Store. Don Simon, Chief Building Official for the City of Fremont, says the store will be located on the east edge of the City, and is expected to open this fall. “It is on the East end of Town on East 23rd Street right by the Applebees across from the Menards, which is also Highway 30. They initially intended to try to be completed with this about October 15th. They have undergone some delays with that, and they’re probably looking more at October 31st right now.”
Simon says Aldi’s has the same owner as Trader Joe’s, and the Fremont Store will be one of the second largest prototypes they have.
Construction is underway. Simon says there will be easy access from 23rd Street to the store. “They have started the project. They have completed footings around the facility. They’re finishing up some interior footing. Steel has arrived on the job. They are extending the street in front of Applebees to include through the Aldi’s project so that street is approximately extended 300, 400 feet. And they’re adding an accessory street off there also that will tie into East 23rd. That is a right in right out only.”
Simon says the road will be similar to the access road at Menards.
Simon says different things will be offered from time to time. “Another bit of information I heard is they occasionally have some odd different type of products and items that they sell. And I’ve heard that is because when any type of a truck may breakdown anywhere in the country Aldi’s will buy that truck and bring that to their facility. And you can have anything from A to Z on that truck that they offer in that store.”
Simon says they will have coolers, alcohol, and produce.
He adds bulk products come in and are put on the shelves in boxes.
Simon says Aldi’s is popular in the Omaha Metro. “In the Nebraska area I think the first one I recall was in Bellevue, and that was 20 years ago maybe it came in. It’s still here. There’s a few other ones in the Omaha Metro area. The one I’m most familiar with is the one out on West Maple. And that’s probably about 170th, 180th or so in West Maple.”
Simon says the Fremont Store is going to be bigger than the store on Maple as it will be nearly 15,000 sq ft. with a $2,250,000 valuation.
He adds Aldi’s is being privately funded.
