Keep Fremont Beautiful is holding a Great American Cleanup Event on Monday, April 22nd from 8:00-10:00 a.m. Executive Director Leila Hybl says cleanup will take place at different parks around town.

“And we have identified five of our city parks that we are going to focus on. That will be Barnard Park, Clemmons Park, Johnson Park, John C. Fremont Park, and Miller Park.”

Hybl says people can sign up as an individual or volunteer group at www.keepfremontbeautiful.org.

She adds people should dress accordingly.

“Definitely some thick soled shoes. And depending on the weather, which hopefully it’s not snowing at that point. It should be a bit warmer. We will have a first aid kit on hand just in case. But you’ll want to bring a hat, your sunscreen. I don’t think there’s going to be any bugs out yet so you may not need need to bring your bug spray. But thick soled shoes definitely, and we will have gloves available.”

Hybl says they will have a limited number of regular gardening gloves and some disposable and latex gloves, but people can bring their own gardening gloves and/or a rake.

Hybl says trash and litter is harmful to so many.

“It reaches into multiple areas of the health and wellness of our community. For of course the wildlife litter is trash that has gotten loose and it’s not safe for wildlife to have that out there. And then it’s not safe for kiddos if there’s something sharp that’s out there. It also decreases property value to have litter out on the streets, and it’s harmful to our local water bodies.”

Hybl says the event is open to anyone and everyone.
